Clean renewable energy might be a preferable way to power our gadgets, but it’s not always the easiest to implement on a large scale. Of course, the technology barely worked and several projects ended in abject failure. Now, the US Department of Energy has started construction on a CSS project using proven technology that will be the largest one by far.
All the action is happening at a coal-fired power plant near Houston. With the help of NRG Energy and JX Nippon, the DOE hopes to build a carbon capture system that can get 90% of the carbon dioxide output of coal back into the ground where it can’t affect the climate.
