This is ironic. In reading over the largest oil spills in the World I found that I've walked over the largest accidental oil spill in history. It is near Taft, CA, in the Midway-Sunset field. In 1992 -1994 my company was installing steam cogeneration plants for I\enhanced oil recovery around Taft.

I'd heard about he huge blowout that caused the spill but never heard it was of such historic proportions. There are hundreds of acres with a thin broken layer of dried oil as a result of the blowout.. Scrub trees and grass grow right through it.

Another irony is that the Midway-Sunset & the neighboring Bellridge oil fields are declared habitat for at least 3 Threatened Species. The Blunt Nosed Leopard Lizard, Kangaroo Rat and the Desert Kit Fox.

They are thriving in the location of the worst accidental oil spill in history! who'd a thought it!

Practically all crude oil is a natural, non-toxic mineral. Some does have toxic quantities of sulfur.

The largest oil spills were in Kuwait when Saddam blew up 700 oil wells.
