Statoil (STO -0.2%) says it was awarded the Bajo del Toro Este exploration license as operator in the Neuquén Basin offshore Argentina with a 90% working interest, as part of the country's Gas y Petróleo del Neuquén's fifth bidding round.
https://seekingalpha.com/news/3315529-statoil-wins-exploration-license-offshore-argentina
While ~70% of the world’s discovered oil resources consists of heavy oil and bitumen, Saetre tells Reuters “at Statoil we are not pursuing certain types of resources, we are not exploring for heavy oil or investing in oil sands.”
While the world will need oil and gas for decades to come, STO (STO +1.6%) CEO Eldar Saetre believes many oil deposits will never be tapped as increasingly discerning consumers will demand only the lowest-polluting crude.
Share price seems to have bottomed and reversed $STO with a solid Bull bounce.
$STO Statoil (STO +1.6%) agrees to acquire an additional 10% interest in the BM-S-8 license in the Santos basin offshore Brazil from Queiroz Galvao Exploracao e Producao for $379M.
STO estimates the BM-S-8 license, which includes a substantial part of the Carcará discovery, holds recoverable volumes of 700M-1.3B boe.
The additional 10% equity increases STO's operated interest in the license to 76% from 66%.
Oil prices expected to rise again...
Oil prices spiked higher after the close of Tuesday's session after an industry report suggested U.S. crude inventories fell more than expected.
The American Petroleum Institute reported U.S. crude stockpiles declined by 8.1 million barrels for the week ended July 7. Gasoline stocks also fell by about 800,000 barrels, API reported.
Analysts polled by Reuters forecast that U.S. crude inventories fell 3.2 million barrels while gasoline and distillate stocks each rose by 1.5 million barrels.
great dividend here is this a buy at this price?
$STO Statoil, Husky Energy drill dry wells off Newfoundland
Statoil (STO +1.1%) and partner Husky Energy (OTCPK:HUSKF -0.4%) say they have hit dry holes in their two-well exploration program offshore Newfoundland and Labrador in a prospect where they had high hopes.
"These results are disappointing, as we had hoped to add additional optionality to the near-field area at Bay du Nord," says STO's head of exploration in Canada.
STO says it still estimates the broader Bay du Nord discovery contains 300M barrels of recoverable oil, and a development of the field remains under consideration.
Statoil, Eni strike oil at Barents Sea probe
Statoil (STO +1%) and partners Eni (E +0.8%) and Petoro say they made an oil discovery at the Kayak wildcat in the Barents Sea that could boost volumes for the Johan Castberg development.
STO says the discovery, which totals 25M-50M recoverable boe, may provide valuable additional volumes for the Johan Castberg development and opens other exploration opportunities in the same area.
Separately, STO also says it started production at the Gina Krog oil and gas field in the North Sea, which has recoverable reserves of ~16.8M cm of oil, 11.8B cm of gas and 3.2MN metric tons of natural gas liquids.
Statoil denies patent infringement, maintains Arctic drilling
Statoil (STO +0.9%) says it will keep drilling exploration wells in the Barents Sea using "regular equipment" after a court upheld an injunction in a patent dispute over specialized drilling technology.
STO says the court lifted an injunction on the use of its Cap-X technology in the Blaaman well where drilling was suspended earlier but upheld a ban on the four other Arctic wells it planned to drill this year.
STO says it plans to complete the Blaaman well this summer, while it is currently drilling the Kayak well in the Johan Castberg field by using "regular equipment."
The world is still thirsty for oil... $STO will help fill the tank..
Statoil sees oil demand potentially peaking in 2030
Statoil (STO -0.6%) foresees substantial changes to the global energy mix as the world moves towards a low-carbon energy system, with oil demand potentially peaking in 2030.
STO says in its annual Energy Perspective report that renewables could rise from slightly more than 1% of total primary energy demand in 2014 to nearly 20% in 2050, and that it aims to spend 15%-20% of annual investments on new energy solutions in 2030 to stay competitive in the market.
STO believes global oil demand will increase into the 2020s, but could drop to as low as 65M bbl/day by 2050 compared with 97M bbl/day today.
Statoil's Arctic drilling campaign interrupted by technology dispute
Statoil (STO -1.7%) is forced to stop drilling in the Arctic's Barents Sea after a court issued a temporary injunction in a technology dispute with a small Norwegian company.
The court decision prohibits STO from using its Cap-X drilling technology after the Norwegian firm claimed it was based on its own patented technology that it has been developing since 2000.
STO's Blaamann well, which the company spudded about a week ago, would have been the first exploration well drilled in the Barents Sea this year.
Statoil (OSE: STL, NYSE: STO) announced 7 February 2017 dividend per share of USD 0.2201 for fourth quarter 2016. The NOK dividend per share is based on average USDNOK fixing rate from Norges Bank in the period plus/minus three business days from record date 15 May 2017, in total seven business days.
Norway regulator: Well-control incidents, leaks last year hit five year highs
Norway’s oil industry regulator is raising new concerns about declining safety standards in the North Sea amid a competition to cut costs.
The number of well control incidents and leaks from oil and gas facilities in Norway rose last year to their highest levels in at least five years, the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority says in its annual report, which calls on companies working in the North Sea - including state-run Statoil (NYSE:STO) and Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.A, RDS.B) - to do more to prevent accidents and take care of workers.
While Norway accounts for just a bit more than 2% of global crude oil production, the country has some of the world's strictest safety regulations, and its warnings carry weight in the industry.
Statoil again cuts cost of developing Sverdrup oilfield
Statoil (STO -0.3%) again cuts its estimated cost of developing Norway's Johan Sverdrup oilfield, the largest North Sea discovery in decades, and announces contract awards for the second and final construction phase.
STO now sees overall field development expense at NOK137B-NOK152B ($16.2B-$18B), down from a previous range of NOK140B-NOK170B seen in August, which itself was lower than an earlier outlook for NOK220B in costs.
Germany's Siemens (OTCPK:SIEGY) and Norwegian engineering firms Kvaerner and Aker Solutions win contracts for the second phase, although STO does not plan to make a formal investment decision until H2 2018.

Statoil (STO +1.5%) is higher after Bloomberg reports that Malaysian state-owned energy company Petronas is interested in acquiring its stake in the Trans Atlantic gas pipeline that runs from the Caspian basin to Europe.
Statoil (STO +1.6%) is higher following an upgrade to Buy at Citigroup, which adds the stock to its short list - which also includes Total (TOT +0.9%) and ConocoPhillips (COP -0.9%) - of companies the firm believes is leading change in the industry.
Statoil (NYSE:STO) says it is suspending its Scarabeo 5 drilling rig because of overcapacity in its rig portfolio, the second such move in a week, as it continues to cut costs in the low oil price environment.
A Statoil (STO +1.9%) senior VP says he is optimistic the company will be able to reach an agreement with the government of Canada's Newfoundland on terms to develop the 600M barrel Bay du Nord discovery in the north Atlantic off the province's coast, but is not yet ready to say when he expects to reach a deal.
STO says it will begin supplying 2.5B cm/year to SSE in October, up from the original annual volume of 500M cm/year under the six-year deal signed by the pair in October last year.
Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.A, RDS.B), BP, Total (NYSE:TOT), Statoil (NYSE:STO) and Eni (NYSE:E) sent a joint letter to the U.N. this week calling for measures to push up the cost of burning coal, either by taxing carbon emissions directly or reducing the supply of carbon emission credits to make those credits pricier on the secondary market.
A natural gas condensate leak at Statoil's (NYSE:STO) Gudrun platform in the North Sea in February posed a major risk of an explosion and came close to causing a deadly accident, according to the company's own investigation.
Statoil completes 2014 Hoop exploration programme
Operator Statoil has together with its partner Idemitsu Petroleum Norge made a small gas discovery in the Mercury prospect in PL614 in the Barents Sea.

Statoil’s farm down in Shah Deniz and South Caucasus Pipeline completed
On 1 May 2014 Statoil completed the farm down of 10% of its interest of 25.5% in the Shah Deniz Production Sharing Agreement and the South Caucasus Pipeline Company Limited to BP (3.33%) and SOCAR (6.67%).
DETAILS
Statoil is not ludicrously undervalued compared to its peers when we consider the company's after tax income compared to its theoretical buyout price.
Therefore, it does appear that the tax rate that the company has to pay is indeed a major reason why it is selling at an enormous EV/EBITDA discount to its peers.
However, that only considers the past performance of the company and does not consider its future potential. As I have discussed several times in the past, Statoil retains the ambition to increase its average daily production to 2,500 mboe by 2020.
This gives the company relatively strong forward growth. In the third quarter, Statoil had average daily equity production of 1,852 mboe. Therefore, growing its average daily production to 2,500 mboe would represent an increase of 35.00% over its current levels.
This is undoubtedly going to result in growing revenues, net income and cash flow barring a significant future decline in oil prices (which seems unlikely).
yes, those once a year divies make a lot of foreign (and even a couple domestic- Disney comes to mind) suffer for most of the year and then only get a boost as it nears announcing dates, though it also makes for great buying opportunities too, if one is willing to wait that long for the payoff, one can make more selling it before shares get recorded, than to go for the divie.
STO needs something good to happen. Despite some massive discoveries over the past few years, its shares have languished because of lower production and quarterly earnings disappointments.
The company has also not addressed its once a year dividend, which is a turn off to some U.S. investors.
That said, the company is trading at the low-end of its range, has a P/E of 10.4, and normally pays a dividend north of 4% (after tax).
they've hit some lows as of late, but the new finds will bring them back up. Same all over for deep water companies.
JOHN - I am more of a domestic player but I like this one.
May pick up a few shares, knock down my avg. Middle East woes should improve the profits.
The stock is not expensive at around 9x this year's expected earnings and just 21% above stated book value. The shares also yield ~5%.
The company is picking up some positive catalysts recently. Statoil reported it struck oil offshore of NewFoundland the other day in a field that is believed to contain 100mm to 200mm barrels of recoverable oil.
In addition, BofA/Merrill Lynch upgraded the shares to "Buy" from "Neutral" today and raised its price target to $25 a share from $23. The upgrade noted the shares carried "relatively low execution and political risk."
The company has raised earnings at just over an 8% CAGR over the past five years. In addition, the shares sell near the bottom of its five-year valuation range based on P/E, P/S, P/CF and P/B.
8:53 AM Statoil (STO) says it has started production at the Hyme field in the Norwegian Sea a month ahead of schedule. Hyme's recoverable resources were put at 30M boe, most of it crude oil and some natural gas. The Hyme development will extend the production life of the nearby Njord field until 2020, from 2015 previously. Investments are expected at ~NOK4.5B ($799M)
4:35 AM Statoil (STO): Q4 net profit -49% to 12.98B Norwegian kroner ($2.36B), or 4.07 kroner per share, and vs consensus of 11.94B kroner. Adjusted EBIT +5.2% to 48.3B kroner vs 46.46B kroner. Revenues -12% to 160.6B kroner vs 164.22B. Proposes dividend of 6.75/share.
8:19 AM More on Statoil's (STO) Q4 results: Plans 2013 capex of $19B, up from $18B in 2012. Reiterated its forecast of lower Y/Y production in 2013, and says a recent asset swap with Wintershall would shave ~40K boe/day off its production. Still aims to raise production to more than 2.5B boe/day by 2020, a 25% increase over current levels.
9:13 AM Statoil (STO) is slapped with an improvement order by Norway’s safety watchdog after a serious gas leak at its Heimdal platform last year. The action follows a probe by the Petroleum Safety Authority that uncovered “serious regulatory breaches” by STO, which led to the incident in which 3,500 kg of gas escaped, creating a potentially combustible cloud around the facility.
Absolutely. It's an exciting time.
we'll have a number of winners out of it.
VERY eager to see what they come up with.
6:45 PM, Jan 07. Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.A, RDS.B) and Statoil (STO) are racing to build the world's first subsea gas compression unit, a key building block in a drive to make platform-free offshore production a reality within a decade. If the technology succeeds, Arctic developments could be the main beneficiaries and could mitigate some of the concern over drilling in harsh environments
