EUROTECH, Ltd. Announces New Explosives Screening Portal Product Development to Enhance Security
FAIRFAX, Va., Jan 24, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- EUROTECH, Ltd., (AMEX: EUO),
reported that development of an explosives screening portal product based on its
proprietary Acoustic Core(TM) technology is currently in progress.
The new screening portal is intended to combine the functions of metal detection
and explosives detection into a single product. The device is expected to look
and function very similarly to existing airport metal detector portals commonly
used throughout the world, but it will have the added capability of screening
for explosives.
The product will be designed to work at the same rate of speed of existing metal
detectors allowing free flow of passenger traffic.
The Company is currently in various stages of discussion with established
security industry companies regarding Acoustic Core(TM) technology as part of an
overall strategy to achieve market penetration through strategic alliances.
The screening device will provide computerized automatic screening of humans,
their clothing and footwear, for metal and explosive devices. The technology is
ideally suited for primary screening applications where humans require screening
and high rates of traffic require automated computer controlled detection.
The portal's proprietary Acoustic Core(TM) spectral analysis package
quantitatively analyzes technology acoustic properties of screened objects,
which produce an acoustic fingerprint.
This acoustic fingerprint based on the material spectral acoustic properties of
impedance, sound velocity and absorption will allow a computer to be programmed
to automatically detect illicit materials such as plastic explosives.
Transmitting a short wide bandwidth burst of acoustic energy; receiving the
returned acoustic energy and processing the returned acoustic energy utilizing
tools obtain the acoustic fingerprint. The product development is expected to
take about six months to complete. The expectation is that the prototype will
exhibit characteristics, which allow the product to obtain FAA certification.
The publication Aviation Security International (October 2000 Edition) stated,
"In the same way that access control systems (biometrics and card) can now be
integrated with metal detection to facilitate the movement of staff into
restricted areas, so too the aim must now be for the manufacturers of metal
detection and explosive detection and passenger X-ray technologies to continue
to work tighter to develop fully integrated screening portals that combine the
different detection methodologies."
In addition to this self-funded product development, the Company submitted four
other proposals to the Department of Defense, all focused on primary screening
applications for illicit materials such as explosives, biohazards and nuclear
radioactive compounds.

EUROTECH, Ltd. Enters Into Cryptography Licensing Agreement for $1M with Etelix, U.S.
FAIRFAX, Va., Jan 9, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- EUROTECH, Ltd., (Amex:EUO), announced today a licensing agreement for its cryptography technology with Etelix, U. S., a subsidiary of Etelix, Ltd. (Etelix).
Eurotech, through its subsidiary Crypto.Com, Inc., has been working on the advanced development of this unique and revolutionary cryptography technology since its acquisition in 1999.
According to Don Hahnfeldt, Eurotech CEO, "Early on we recognized the potential for commercial applications of this technology to improve security of communications and data. We feel there is substantial need for this product in the telecommunications field, the Internet, and in financial markets."
The Etelix licensing agreement represents the first commercial market opportunity for this cryptography technology.
The technology is unique in that it is a double cipher, keyless transmission, communication system, which transmits encrypted data during the communication session containing no key vulnerable to compromise. This provides for indecipherable transmissions and represents a new class of cipher.
The product can be implemented in a software only configuration, which can then be embedded into an existing software communication product such as a secure router or firewall.
The agreement with Etelix calls for a product development period, which is followed by adoption of the product into its telecom platform. It also gives Etelix non-exclusive rights to sublicense the technology throughout the global telecom marketplace.
Eurotech will receive a $1M cash payment upon delivery of the product for adoption into the Etelix platform, or upon an Etelix sublicensing agreement with a third party. Eurotech will receive 50% of licensing and royalty revenues from Etelix sublicensing agreements. Delivery is projected within two months.
About Etelix: Etelix is one of only five licensed communication providers operating in Venezuela, which recently underwent deregulation of its communications industry. Etelix is one of the few companies that will benefit by utilizing VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) technology.
VOIP is estimated to comprise over 75% of all worldwide voice services by year 2007 as reported in analysis performed by Frost and Sullivan in May 2001. Etelix was founded in 1999 and has established gateways in multiple cities throughout Venezuela. It will soon expand to other countries in South America. It is a member of ITXC, which is one of the world's largest VOIP clearinghouses.
Some of ITXC's key affiliates are: the Ameritech division of SBC, China Telecom, Verizon, and Korea Telecom.
Etelix CEO Loren Friedman says, "Etelix is committed to becoming a major player in the VOIP marketplace. Our ability to introduce this cutting edge encryption technology will keep us one step ahead of our competition in the telecom industry. We are very excited about our partnership with Eurotech".

SUB-SURFACE REMOTE SENSING TECHNOLOGIES - On September 25, 2001, we acquired from Trylon Metrics Inc. the worldwide rights to patented remote sensing technologies, Electromagnetic Radiography(TM) and Acoustic Core(TM), for 2,500,000 shares of our common stock. We believe that this acquisition will enhance our ability to market EKOR(TM) products. We can now offer integrated environmental remediation products, and assessment and monitoring services throughout the life cycle of nuclear remediation and hazardous waste cleanup projects.
Electromagnetic Radiography(TM) and Acoustic Core(TM) technologies provide 3D images of subsurface contaminants with a high degree of discrimination and precision. We believe these technologies offer large area coverage at high resolution and are significantly more cost effective than monitoring methods currently used for environmental assessments. In addition to the complementary benefits of these technologies for EKOR(TM) products, Acoustic Core(TM) was demonstrated to the U.S. Customs Service as capable of detecting plastic explosives.
Research, which began in 1997 in collaboration with Battelle Memorial Institute, successfully tested Acoustic Core(TM) as capable of detecting C4 plastic explosives located within containers by non-intrusive methods; we believe markets for this technology exist in the security sector of our economy. The technologies have been proposed for use to the DOE as follow on Phase 2 work to be conducted at Hanford.
There have also been proposals forwarded for oil exploration related activities. Three patent filings have been executed, which address use of the technology in the area of marine geophysical exploration for oil and natural gas. Two large dredging and marine environmental projects based in the US have been forwarded technical and pricing proposals for use of the technology in identification of marine sediment contaminants. The United States government General Accounting Office has identified one of these technologies for future use in continuing government research for detection and classification of land mines.

Checking to see if anyone is out there. The neighborhood on some of the other threads of EUO is in desperate need of some sort of neighborhood watch.
Kevin:I hope you decided to stay with us. Because if you did, I think you will be one happy camper. The last 2 days were the very beginning. A taste of the future. I believe starting next week the company will begin to reward us for having the faith and perserverance for sticking around. I am looking for us to finally hear what we have been waiting for, and though I do not know how much of an effect it will have on stock price, I feel it will be positive.
The reason I believe these things will come to pass is from reading filings and the latest PRs, they have given me clues which make me feel the time is now.
Fingers crossed, Brett
i'm listening brett ! happy new year! eom
I hear ya Waxy,
Good luck my friend, with EUO..
Best of luck in 2001 with everything....
IH getting trafficky lately on some threads...maybe EUO won't be too far away!
FM
I know that no one is listening, but I just thought I would start the new year off with the first post here.
I know we have not performed as I had hoped as far as stock price is concerned. Though not much in the stock market has of late. But I feel pretty confident our time is finally upon us.
Beginning this first week of January I expect news. And by the end of January, I expect a much higher stock price as well as substantial news, including certification (as it were) and finally the beginning contracts for EKOR.
I truly believe the future is upon us. This, if I am right will be a special year of performance for this company. And not just for EKOR, but other products will come to the fore front as well.
Regards, Karnac the magnificent
Where's everybody at!?

Popular Science October Issue:
Page 26..Nuclear Waste...Sealed with a Hiss.
The Meltdown at Ukraine's Chernobyl unit 4 is still the world's worst nuclear accident, and even after 14 years the disaster continues in the form of radioactive particles that float away as dust or leach into the soil. But a solution may be on the way from the Washington,D.C.-based company Eurotech, which claims a new material called Ekor can safely encapsulate radioactive material.
Invented by scientists in Moscow,Ekor is a silicon-based foam that looks like marshmallow. It can withstand radiation of up to 10 billion rads (350 rads is enough to kill a person).Sprayed onto nuclear waste by a robot,Ekor is fire-and waterproof.
Ekor was first used in March,on one of the hot spots in Chernobyl's Unit 4,where radoative wasted melted through the floor of the reactor and formed a debris pile in the basement.Unlike previous coatings,Ekor effectively immobilized the debris.
However,"it was never intended to be a shield,"says Don Hahnfeldt, president of Eurotech.Only an additive such as boron would reduce the radiation given off the pile.
Although the Unites States doesn't have any sites as contaminated as Chernobyl,it has plenty of nuclear waste with potential to contaminate groundwater or air.Recently,Eurotech demonstrated Ekor to officials at the Hanford nuclear waste site in Richland,Washington. There,Ekor could be useful for sealing leaking tanks and insulating containers for transport.
The Department of Energy and state environmental agencies are currently certifying Ekor.It could be in use as early as the end of this year.---Christopher Miller
NoDebtatAll...thanks goes to you for bringing this article to my attention. Now after I have put the article on the thread I hope that you all enjoy it.

FM We are just slow starters. Once out of the blocks we will be just fine. Very poor PR to this point since listing. We have nowhere to go but up in this department IMHO. The more I learn about all the Nasdaq exchanges the happier I am we are on the Amex.
EUROTECH's EKOR Will be Used in Field Application Development At Chernobyl
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 2000--EUROTECH, Ltd., EUO, announced today that EKOR will be used in the field development of application technology at Chernobyl beginning in October.
Given the field proven success of EKOR, Chernobyl's Shelter is moving forward with a continuation of field application development using EKOR with advanced robotics. EKOR is a revolutionary geopolymer composite used to "cocoon" nuclear waste and prevent radioactive contaminants from dusting or seeping in to the environment.
"This is an important milestone for EKOR," said Jeff Stephen, Eurotech's Chief Operating Officer. "It allows us to demonstrate at Chernobyl how EKOR can be applied by advanced robotic equipment in a physically challenging radioactive environment. The equipment and techniques refined here will be directly applicable to other radioactive and toxic sites worldwide where the safe direct application of EKOR by humans is impossible."
Chernobyl's Shelter team will apply EKOR in the area of the "bubble pool," where molten nuclear fuel had collected after the catastrophic melt down of Reactor 4 in 1986. The field development program is designed to develop and fine tune the methods and equipment for applying EKOR coatings to nuclear waste.
Due to the dangerous working conditions under the failed reactor 4, robotics developed by scientists from Kurchatov will administer the EKOR coatings.
Eurotech, which owns the rights to produce and market EKOR, is working with NuSil Technology in Santa Barbara, California to test and prepare EKOR for commercial production in North America where hundreds of nuclear waste sites pose a threat to safety and health.
"EKOR has been proven at Chernobyl to offer the most advanced and effective means available of safely containing radioactive waste and preventing its spread," remarked Stephen.
EKOR was certified for use by the Ukrainian government in August after an initial application of the composite at Chernobyl's failed reactor 4 proved that EKOR is radiation resistant, does not degrade even after long-term exposure to radiation, and can withstand extreme physical, chemical and biological assaults on its structural integrity.

Eurotech, Ltd. Product Aids Environmental Cleanup
WASHINGTON, Sep 5, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Offers Best Solution for Sea-Based Oil Spills
First Shipment Will Reach U.S. Customer This Month
Ten to fifteen million gallons of oil are spilled accidentally in and around the United States each year. Major spills, like the Exxon Valdez, can double that number.
Cleaning up these accidents costs more than half a billion dollars a year.
This does not include an even larger amount of oil spilled or leaked routinely by industry, or the costs associated with this routine cleanup.
The most widely used material for non-industrial oil spill cleanups is polypropylene, first introduced some 25 years ago and little changed since. Polypropylene, a thermoplastic resin, consumes energy when it is produced and, if incinerated, when it is disposed.
A new product, now being shipped to U.S. customers, offers a low-cost, environmentally safe and efficient alternative. This new product, called Sorbtech SB-1, is an organic, water repellent mineral that absorbs up to three times as much oil as other products now on the market. Because it does not take up water, it is the ideal solution for sea-based oil spills. And, both the absorbed oil and waste absorbent can be recycled.
Developed originally by scientists who emigrated to Israel from the former Soviet Union, Sorbtech SB-1 has undergone extensive laboratory testing in Israel and will soon be applied in field conditions in the U.S. The first shipment of Sorbtech SB-1 for a U.S. customer is on its way and will be delivered to Arizona-based McPhee Environmental Supply later this month.
Eurotech, Ltd., based in Washington, D.C. will market Sorbtech SB-1 in the United States and license its production here.
Eurotech is traded on the American Stock Exchange (AMEX: EUO ) and the Frankfurt Exchange. Company information can be found on www.eurotechltd.com .
