No, not really. I've bought into start up companies through private placements. Some work, some not. However, I've been able to peruse the books in advance and no one on the internet was trying to pump the share price to dump on me.
A penny stock IS NOT a real investment. It's a gamble where you don't get free drinks to go along with it. And the reason people with hundreds of millions don't invest is because they've got more sense.
The world of investing has turned into flipping stocks, hedge fund shorting, computer programs looking to trade on pennies, and well, just about everything that has nothing to do with what investing is meant to be about, which is the building of real companies.
We'll see what Tesla turns into, but I can assure you, people with millions bought in via private placement first, and probably dumped out when it went public.
