I doubt they would put Merrifield into a tablet that is superseding a tablet that had a quad-core in it previously. Also as there have been no Android Bay Trail tablets released yet I doubt there will be any now with Moorefield so close as the latter is more suited to the Android tablet market. Nexus 8 does appear to be the launch vehicle of Moorefield.

This also opens up the question now if there are to be no Android Bay Trail tablets as previously stated then what does this to do to all the contra-revenue that was supposed to be thrown at them ? PO took a lot of criticism for various reasons but at least he was a man of his word but very little of what BK has said so far has come to pass as he stated. Of course it makes much better sense if Moorefield is the 22nm Android Silvermont design rather than the Windows orientated Bay Trail but it would have been nice if shareholders and analysts were informed about this beforehand, who knows they might even have given INTC a share bump as a result ;-).

The push back, however, appears to jibe with recent rumours that instead of using Snapdragon chips for the iPad Mini rival, Asus and Google are looking on the possibility of partnering with Intel. So far, the strongest Intel chip candidate to power the Nexus 8 is Moorefield that hums away at top-speed of 2.33GHz

If I read this correctly, the article just refers to existing rumours and it claims that a shift of Nexus 8 from (unofficial) april release to (unofficial) june/july release would support the existing rumours about Intel being put into Nexus 8. So, basically, this is not a new rumour at all, therefore no support for such a claim at all.

I guess there just have been talks with Qualcomm and Intel, that's it. Who won probably is still not decided and they develop both platforms in parallel. If Intel is in time with 64 bit Android and Moorefield/BayTrail, they may win this design (since Google may prefer a 64 bit Android release together with their Nexus 8). Taking into account Intel's execution in mobile in the past I really hope they will not screw it again this time. This would be a very important design win and I bet many designs will follow that one because customers will like the result and app support for x86 will improve further.

As a sidenote: Moorefield or BayTrail may support building a super slim 8" tablet, something which is quite popular since the iPad Air release.

Google usually launches Nexus products late Q3 or early Q4. The 2013 Nexus 7 came out around October or November. It would be strange to see it in the summer.

That article has a bunch of different possible dates in it.

the christianpost link they have actually says this: " The Nexus 8 is rumored to sport a 64-bit Snapdragon 805 processor to compete with these existing devices."
