NYC has a huge tax revenue problem right now. They can't generate enough taxes to cover their overhead already and many are moving out just to avoid the levels they are reaching. And all this is with the new Mayor DiBlasio pumping the idea of raising taxes to all new levels. Building another new facility after spending over $110mm on just this one, and employing more people ( when city municipal departments are being asked to CUT budgets and staff almost every year) is a pipe dream. NYC addressed their recycled plastic issue with this spanking new facility. It won't spend one dime to replace a brand new state of the art facility it just opened for at least a few more decades.
Maybe it would be good to also mention SIMS has a 40 year contract with NYC to recycle and sell what they do at this MRF.
I think they just might be a bit peeved with NYC breaking their end of the deal.
