Ten -

Someone might buy AMD for Opteron alone. Flash will be gravy. The only companies I can see being interested are IBM and Moto because of the SOI process. There again, bankruptcy might be a good option if they can write off all their debt and restructure.

Tenchu, thanks a lot. I think all points are valid except that it is surprise for me that Dresden loan can default. I wonder if that's true.

Obviously if you take AMD balance sheet and extrapolate for few more quarters like this they will bankrupt. I wonder if moderate profit in the range of 30-40 mil per quarter is enough to eliminate all long-term debt payment problems?

My nearest indicator is to see the performance of nForce 3 with 1.8 Ghz Opteron. If it will beat P4 3 Ghz in 32-bit benchmarks that will be enough to give a quick boost to the platform for the entusiast and academic market. Those kind of folks will order the mobo and chip the first day they will show on the pricewatch. I know it's not a big market, but big enough to bring another 20-40 mil and make AMD to break even.

It seems like their marketing strategy that I described earlier is very effective. Thanks for posting a summary.

Technu re: basic points of the article

Thanks for posting. This guy must be really desperate.

The author's mutual fund isn't shorting AMD at the moment, but may in the near future.

Great strategy for a fund manager, Arne Alsin. I mean publicly preannouncing the intention of shorting the stock. Oh boy, how dumb exactly do you think we are?

AMD may dip to $1-2 in the next year or two.
