Unfortunately, from my pov, I don't see where the article addresses the ELEPHANT in the room; namely, not just HDMI 2.0 being "out", or available, but when it is EXPECTED to be "in silica"?
I haven't found ANY complete & succinct explanation as to when that will be. Perhaps that is why it was NOT included in the article. Everyone is being left then with the only option for now, using firmware to accommodate the available upgrade (as I understand it). NOTE that NTEK has HDMI listed on their packaging below:
One can see for themselves that NTEK has the latest HEVC noted there as well, which IR confirms NTEK completed post packaging design (& why 6Mbps is listed as opposed to ~3Mbps).
Lastly, a conversation with NTEK regarding Las Vegas R&D seems to intimate NTEK working on a MUCH-IMPROVED display-panel that can display content superior to what currently exists. Superior in EVERY WAY that is SIGNIFICANT to 4K's current issues & one of it's LARGEST POTENTIAL DRIVING MARKETS!!!
