Kevin Phillips (The Emerging Republican Majority, American Theocracy) had some very interesting comments on this while doing the book tour for American Theocracy. Basically he called it dead on. The Christian right had always been taken for granted by establishment republicans... and all of a sudden they wanted a seat at the table. He was actually talking about Huckabee in '08 at the time, but what he predicted was a schism that would split the party.
Pretty good call, eh? You have William F. Buckley Jr. and Bill Kristol in the same party with Rooster, 3Saints and Sarah Palin. I mean, how long can this possibly last?
Throw in Cruz and Louie Gohmert while we're at it. Their goose is cooked.
