That would be an individual's decision. Those families that I know where their parents and/or love ones are suffering from Dry AMD or SMD, are always under their Doctor's care. Their Insurance cover certain aspects, the remainder is out of pocket. That is how these Clinical trial patients were selected. One's vision acuity is the most precious health issue when declared "legally blind". The costs to being declared "legally blind" is like staggering in home care help, family members helping etc. etc.

The alternative to receiving RPE and visual acuity improvement is like a no-brainer.

Insurance companies may not realize or care. No matter, so long as the public and/or Congress forces them to cover the procedures. And at $3,000--$6,000 it is quite cost-effective anyway. Compare that to open-heart surgery or ongoing courses of drug therapies or dialysis. This is a bargain imo.
