Yeah, whatever. Eighteen congressmen, or 4% of House
BFD. Of the 18 that wrote Obama, eight are from California, and only one is a Republican (Dana Rohrabacher, a libertarian conservative, IIRC).
That's 4.1% of the House membership, and 0.4% of the Republican caucus.
Their number includes some of the most liberal in the House (Grijalva and Moran,) and certified nut Barbara Lee (I lived in her district) is in the group.
The only two on that list I take seriously are Lofgren (San Jose, CA) and Rohrabacher (SoCal Coast), as I used to live in CA and have followed them for years.
I might have seen this as a big deal if they got 100 members to sign, and 20 - 30 Republicans, but as it is, it's weak sauce.
Here's the list of the signers, grouped by State:
Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ)
Alan Lowenthal (D-CA)
Barbara Lee (D-CA)
Eric Swalwell (D-CA)
Jared Huffman (D-CA)
Mike Honda (D-CA)
Sam Farr (D-CA)
Zoe Lofgren (D-CA)
Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA)
Jared Polis (D-CO)
Jan Schakowsky (D-IL)
Mike Quigley (D-IL)
James McGovern (D-MA)
Earl Blumenauer (D-OR
Steve Cohen (D-TN)
Beto O’Rourke (D-TX)
James Moran (D-VA)
Peter Welch (D-VT)
