My apologies. I was coming from a very long session of reading and posting about vaccines and had "vaccines on the brain".
You are right. It would be exceptionally difficult to eliminate a disease thru treatment rather than with a vaccine.
While possible, it would absolutely not happen given the current economic and political situations with multiple war zones and various countries that essentially deny health care to large portions of their populations out of economic necessity (Africa etc) or political ideology (the USA).
