The CA economy is doing much better than it was a couple of years back. It would be nice to see gold mining make a comeback. There are hundreds of mines that could be reopened, but mines like the Idaho-Maryland would be too costly for the return imo, and would be damaging to urban groundwater reserves. Placer, and especially underground placer has much less environmental impact than hardrock/lode.
