LOL! Yeah, that Pontiac was junk. The entire company was in a major downtrend. I think the Aztec finally killed them altogether.
That straight 6 4.9 was actually considered a better engine than the V8 5.0. Surprised you had problems with it. At least I think it was the 4.9 in '76? Maybe not. I had a '75 Ford Elite, unfortunately with the 351 Windsor engine, when the Cleveland was the good one. The really unfortunate part was, I bought it IN Cleveland. I did get 100k miles out of it though before it died. My first car with intermittent wipers. I was so excited.
