Sometimes that is an emotional spike and could also mean a turn in direction..A Hammer means that,,They Hammered the price down.

The sellers took it down to the bottom of the lower shadow (spike), but couldn't hold it as buyers came in & took it back up. This sort of shows weekness of the bears at that point.
