Interest on saving accounts has dropped to almost nothing as a result of the Feds lowering the interest rates so unqualified people could buy houses.

I had tax free bonds that paid 12% and slowly they were all refinanced and I got paid off with no place to reinvest those funds. The interest rates on CDs dropped every time they came due until they were not worth buying.
