computer speed: Intel (R) Core (TM) i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz. Besides using my own computer I also tested on a fast computer at the Sony Center
And for your information, as an investor I participated in the testing of ClipStream before the official launch and did send info about my computer capabilities to Steve on Oct 31, answering his email below. The answer I received was "Great-Thanks" and I assumed from his answer that my CPU was OK!
Hereby Steve's email from Oct 31 (note that it doesn't tell Clipstream wouldn't work on a number of video formats) To our investors:
This is an IR list and I apologize for the intrusion and will try not to email too often. Please check back as we'll make changes to this page where I don't email the changes to the list.
In answer to your questions:
- this test is only for computers as our settings already work well on mobile. The release product will autodetect and work well on both mobile and computers. - a large number of people had a really good experience on all three original videos. For the experience to be good, you needed a fast CPU with nothing weird (virus detectors, etc.) running in the background, low latency, at least 2.5 Mbps for 1 and 2 and at least 4 Mbps for 3. - some people had a lot of rebuffering. This occurred generally if they spiked below 4 Mbps or if their location had a lot of latency to our servers in Vancouver. The stats. are that the median speed in North America is 6 Mbps. We can completely eliminate the rebuffering by lowering the quality, but we're trying to avoid doing that.
These are not release videos. In a release situation, we will autodetect CPU, latency and bandwidth and downgrade as necessary to not rebuffer. The purpose of these tests is to get the highest possible quality for the most people when we launch. We're not doing development now. We're just fine tuning the launch parameters. Some of these tests are intended to not work, but to still give us information to get the best global settings for our cloud service when it goes live.
Can you please try the tests in both full screen and just embedded in the page and let us know:
- your browser - OS - computer speed - bandwidth as per the speedtest.
Thanks - this feedback has been incredibly valuable and we really appreciate the huge response we've had to date. It's really gratifying to see the support we have from our investors and the willingness to help. I hadn't expected such a high percentage of respondents, but the large statistical sample from markets in almost every continent has made our developers' jobs easier and has really helped.
