"The actual story at ASCO is worse than that."

That's depressing.

I realize that an unethical company could submit a very optimistic abstract and cash in on the benefits before the actual data were presented at a conference, but presumably they could only get away with it once or twice before investors caught on.

I've never been to an ASCO meeting, but I am told that the abstract book is about the size of a large telephone book, so it makes sense for all attendees to have access to it in advance, if only so they can manage their time and plan on which talks they want to attend.
