#34896 RE: Tinroad #34894

Tinroad: That press release is nearly 2.5 years old! It merely states that "This platform [MicroCAM] is capable of supporting MP3, ePAC, AAC, QDX, and Windows Media Audio formats for music as well as commonly used algorithms for voice file compression."

EDIG did not provide for licensing or encoding of AAC into any of the products that it eventually produced (MXP100, Treo, Odyssey 1000). Have you contacted EDIG to obtain public verification that these products can be upgraded with a simple firmware download?

Also, do you know anything verifiable about the specific DRM that was used by Apple? Is it available to other manufacturers or is it exclusive to Apple?

From today's announcements, it sounds like only users of the new iPod can download the music from the Apple site to a portable player and that only Mac users can download it to a computer. Supposedly a Windows version is due in June, but will any music players other than iPod be able to download the music to them?
