Maybe, IRDK, but you can go on the Yahoo HP thread which is populated by ex HPers, some of whom are technical, to witness a taste of what was the general attitude among some employees before and immediately after HP merged about 6 years ago.

They are myopic, opinionated, not very technically accomplished, circumspect or objective, who are skilled more in the art of corporate politics than achievement.

If this was the attitude of the Engineering team it was very important for Intel to take over.

Plus, for better or worse, Intel added the Alpha boys to the mix. Plus, I think it is very important that management have a technical background which Intel has more so than either HP or CPQ in the last 10 or so years.

But the real guy to ask here is Chipguy, who probably, actually REALLY knows first hand.

Actually the Intel and HP combo design team in FTC worked
quite well together, by all accounts, on McKinley and then
Montecito. All that has basically changed is the HP folks now
have Intel printed on their pay stubs and they have moved
across the street. Oh yeah, the former HP engineers can now
finally peak inside the x86 compatibility box. Ooops, it is no
longer there.

The important thing is largely symbolic - IPF is now an entirely
Intel operation and HP is just one of the group of OEMs that
build systems around IPF (conceptually if not revenue wise :-P)
