I think it is unlikely they'll drop Intel anytime soon. It works as a good differentiator and will cost them very little now they have 64 bit ARMs with practically the same operating system. In practice they're making two of almost the same software and making it look different whereas Microsoft just caused trouble by making two different things and calling them the same.

That isn't likely to happen any time soon. Apple makes billions on sales from laptops, and they are despite analysts still proclaiming the death of the PC - those rumors, as one might put it, have been greatly exaggerated....
