Both companies that my sons work for require all visitors to provide proof of their identity and also require them to sign a roster before being allowed in the building. One works for a large financial firm in NYC, while the other works for the largest online retailer in the world, the one that starts with an A and ends with a Z and is headquartered in Seattle. I'm required to do the above, even if I've visited the business dozens of times, and even when my sons are with me. I know all of the people at the entrance to both businesses by name, and they as well know me. In spite of this, I still have to show proof of identity and sign a roster, or I'm not allowed to enter the building, period.

Also, a post from a few days ago mentioned that a business couldn't be legitimate if it didn't have a sign at the entrance. Well, if that's the case, than the Seattle company mentioned above isn't legitimate, as they have no sign at the entrance to the building my son works in. I'm mentioning this not to defend PVEC, but simply to show that both items are a common practice, even with multi billion dollar companies.

The company I work for requires all visitors to show proof of identification before entering the my place of business.

This includes all deliveries being made by vendors as well as workers who need to stop in while they are not on duty.

You can't even get past the main entrance until you explain why you are there and where you need to go as a visitor, even if you are an employee. At that point a phone call is made to confirm before you are allowed to continue.

Not uncommon at all and honestly seems pointless to even discuss.

Any visitor to any company typically has to sign in and often get a guest pass. Companies do not allow people to wander around the premises or enter uninvited for many reasons, including safety and confidentiality. Almost all buildings in Manhattan require a visitor to sign into a roster, obtain a guest pass, show ID, and sometimes have a picture taken....
