My friend, global warming itself is creating the extremes in temperature and the storms- whether hot or cold.
It IS BASED on increasing temperatures measurements over time around the globe, and the rising of water levels. Yes, there have been such periods in history. It's a changing world and of cycles. No point in wasting time taking sides on natural phenomenon, cycles, and state of things and changing temperatures.
