Thx HB. China's shrimp production this year down 30% yoy, shrimp prices up about 100% yoy mainly due to EMS and typhoons.

Shrimp producers at the China Fisheries & Seafood Expo all commented on the sky-high shrimp prices, with none wishing to forecast when the peak will be reached.

Shrimp prices in China are higher than gold,” joked Liang Chaorong, manager-assistant at Zhanjiang Evergreen Aquatic Product, an integrated Chinese shrimp, feed and tilapia producer, with sales of $1 billion (including feed).

China’s harvest this year, he said, is about 30% down from 2012, due to both early mortality syndrome and typhoons in parts of China.

Also, the chart at the bottom of the article below forecasts China's annual production of about 1.2m MT in the next 2 years, or about 4x the capacity of our expected mega farm contracts!
