#46 RE: JD400 #45

When stock car racing became NASCAR, Big Bill France convened a summit meeting in Daytona Beach and a mix of racing legends agreed on a new format for what became the next generation of stock car auto racing. There was no big money there. The summit was all about preserving the competition and joy of the sport and the fans that had become attached to it.

Brian France or Joie ChitwoodIII or Mike Helton or SOMEBODY needs to have a similar face-to-face with the peer group of team owners, drivers and sponsors to chart a new direction.

Brian France needs to forge a partnership with Bruton Smith in a conclusive way, not just a media moment of mock accord to pacify the network talking heads. The garbage that went on over scheduling cup events in Ft. Worth, Kentucky and elsewhere needs to give way to a fan-base-driven initiative that cultivates passionate fans, not wealthy track operators.

NASCAR is a wonderful fan experience that has become confused and hijacked by greed and big money manipulation. It needs to return to its roots in adr5enaline-raising competition, fun and fan involvement in the racing experience, not just expensively negotiated app's and bizarre fan access (at optional cost) to the foul-mouthed exchanges between Kurt Busch and his crew chief over lousy pit stops.

JMHO.
