I trade w TD, I got a quick lesson about level 11.
A simple explanation of market makers: 1, All trades be it one or one million go through the market makers.
2, Market Makers hold shares of different companies so that when they buy or sell they make a commission of 1, 1 1/2 cents per share sold or bought. Quite an incentive to have a volatile market.
I'm open to more lessons.

Another bounce at .172 or .173 I hope.

A "market maker" is just following orders. For instance, ETRF (etrade financial) is a market maker. They aren't making a decision to buy sell or short for themselves, they are just doing what their client wants. Same goes with all other market makers.
