Rosen, I think you are confusing someone being pragmatic vs self-righteous.

pragmatic- 1.
dealing with things sensibly and realistically in a way that is based on practical rather than theoretical considerations.

Self-righeous- 1.
having or characterized by a certainty, esp. an unfounded one, that one is totally correct or morally superior.
