Here in "red state" (until this Nov) VA we pay a 5% tax on food at the supermarket, and a "personal property" tax based on the value of our automobile. This Nov my County will have a Referendum on the ballot for a 2% "meals tax" at restaurants.
Of all the nuisance taxes in VA, the 5% tax on food at the supermarket annoys me the most because it effects poor people.
