#9490 RE: mackwheaton #9488

I actually worked from Cottonwood to Rapid City, but Wall to Wasta was an easy leg to remember. This is right in the heart of the SD Badlands, and because much is Indian Reservation, there are literally no roads in some directions for a hundred miles. Two of the strangest things I would see were flocks of over a thousand antelope traveling together; they're small, white and tan, and have pointy horns. Another strange thing we'd see a couple of times a day were killdeer bird's nests. A killdeer is a small bird that mainly is a ground feeder. They would make their nests right in the rail ballast a foot or two away from the tracks, and the eggs would look just like the rail rock. We'd walk the track for a quarter mile, drop our tools, jump in the hi-rail pickup truck, take it down another quarter mile, and then walk back to our tools, and work our way up to the truck. RR work keeps you in shape, leaves you with a never ending thirst for beer, and you save lots of money because all your living costs are paid for when you are on a job. Picked up a lot of INO stock in the .40's and .50's that way, and at this point, every penny increase in pps is $1600 and taxed at the long term investment rates. Truly this is a buy and hold stock for the next year, and then re-evaluate. GLTlongs
