What happens to the "assets" when a company goes "dark" and no longer responds to shareholders after the company offs it's paper?

And all or most money trials & stock trails lead back to company officials or "associates"? or obscure consultants

Especially when there is no legal "ownership" filed of acquired companies which hold the "assets".
