#41493 RE: Crow3 #41492

Crow3, you are in direct conflict with the evidence. Also, and again you just don't get it.... The ValiMed G4 system performs DIRECT analysis on the drugs and targets of interest. Your wording seems to be getting very slippery trying to suggest ANYTHING about any generation of ValiMed reading labels. (although, they could probably add that as an upgrade option for comparison).

Don't try to suggest ValiMed reads labels. I believe that would be false, and misleading.

Here is a proper description that applies to all generations of ValiMed... and the www.ValiMed URL is obviously now http://cdex-inc.com/

ISMP
Heparin errors continue despite prior, high-profile, fatal events

Direct medication validation technology such as ValiMed (www.valimed.com/index.htm), which uses enhanced photoemission spectroscopy to check accuracy, is also available (Kaakeh Y, et al. Enhanced photoemission spectroscopy for verification of high risk IV medications. Am J Health-Syst Pharm 2008;65:49-54).

cdex point:

"""Expiration date and safety

The expiration date of a medication indicates the date the manufacturer or pharmacist guarantees the full potency and safety of a drug.

Some, but not all medications retain potency and are usually safe briefly following the expiration date, but you must check with a pharmacist about specific medications.

Some drugs, such as tetracycline antibiotics, can be dangerous if used after their expiration date."""

Oh my my, one should have been at the CDEX booth in New Orleans. The G4 demonstrated a drug that lost its strength from the morning to the late afternoon.

Surely, one cannot be so out of touch, to not know that there are medications that lose their strength rapidly.

But the more important point is this: What is actually in the vial, IV bag, or syringe. The potency is important, but the bar code does not mean sheet, the diversion of meds in a hospital is much worse than any reports have ever reported.

There are so many patients getting shots and IV bags that are NOT the proper medication. But how would a hospital know that???

This is where the G4 will fill the gap.
