#6230 RE: j45 #6229

The Suspension is a huge deal. It is a red flag, a red light, and a siren to the building code community. But if you never had one to start with, that is another matter. There is no requirement in the building codes for a product to have an ICC-ES ESR. Period.

Many good products go into buildings that don't have an ESR. If I had to guess, I'd say most don't, but that is a SWAG on my part. You can certainly look at how many ESR's are on the ICC-ES website, and then think about how many different products are in a building. Would seem to indicate most products don't have a report.

When the report is pulled, it is going to be an even bigger deal, but most AHJ's aren't going to sit and wait to see if a Suspended report comes back. Let's say it comes back. That puts Eco in a bad spot, again. If they go out and advertise it's back, then they are waving a flag to those that never knew it was suspended in the first place. But if they don't, the bad taste is left from the suspension for those who knew about it. That's why, if you get a report, you treat it as if your company's life, if not your own, depends on it. And that is why this suspension was probably no accident or forgotten paperwork or a bounced check. ES is probably taking another look at the work they did before while the ESR is up for renewal. Not maintaining the contract with TPI probably didn't help either. ("Renewal" itself is not a bad thing, and does not put a report in Suspension)

IAPMO-UES also issues code reports. Not many though. IAPMO-UES? Well.....
