I suspect at least part of the issue is that with [the prevailing wisdom being that there is] a 0% chance that Ariad will either (1) get bought/sold, or (2) partner any drugs, there is far less risk to going short -- if only because the GSs of the world get word of embargoed presentation info (like '113 pulmonary AEs) earlier enough to get out of the way of any monster gap up.
