Load balancing could be for anything. It's usually needed when you get high traffic or load to a server. EC2 lets you setup virtual servers as needed to handle the load and you can put load balancer's in front of the servers or in this case virtual servers and does exactly what it sounds like. It sends the inquiry's to the virtual servers in the way you set it up. So inquiry 1 might go to server 1 and so on. Hope the helps!
