Two years ago I posted that I had first hand knowledge of these month long executive MBA programs at Harvard.
In my previous life as an undergrad summer work study student I was assigned to my of the professor's/associate dean's running these programs.
Classes were all fluff and BS. Nothing hardcore was presented, and there were no exams. People sat in fancy theater classrooms in padded chairs with their name tags and affiliations in front of them. They were asked to read some fluff piece before class and then an old geezer professor - guys who were past their prime but could not be fired because of tenure - led the class discussion. Essentially it was a discussion of these people's personal experiences.....then there was a break for a catered lunch, almost everyday, where the "students" hobnobbed with each other and wine and beer was available. Afternoons were spent in groups, usually BSing...followed by a cocktail hour from 5 to 7pm, with lots of wine.
Evenings meant escorted events...like Celtic's games or RedSox games, the symphony etc.....
All this cost a fortune....back then almost $35,000 for about four weeks....and the company paid....
Everybody got a certificate and were told how wonderful they were....
It is a racket which has got even bigger and more expensive as other lesser known programs have joined this worthless game....
The sad thing is many of these guys list this on their resume in a very misleading way...claiming a Harvard MBA!!!!
P.S. Nowadays you don't even have to come in for 4 weeks....you just fly in four 4 weekends...what a racket....
