Long-time Apple users are aware of the pain in their platform transitions but these affect mostly current customers. New customers shouldn't see as many problems; especially with transferring existing software over to the new platforms. They might not be able to find all of the applications that they want, though, due to some vendors taking their time in porting (especially Windows-centric vendors).
