Quit google-bombing Copernicus and polka.

Copernicus Cultural Center
5216 W. Lawrence Ave.
773-777-8898

The towering center named after the famed Polish astronomer is truly a landmark in Jefferson Park, a largely Polish community. But many local ethnic groups benefit from the nonprofit foundation that provides a venue for cultural events like exhibits, law fairs, plays, movies and other happenings held in the 2,000-seat theater, formerly a movie palace known as the Gateway. ``There could be a Polish show, or an Indian show, it doesn't really matter,'' says Katherine Wierzewski-Keith, executive assistant. ``It's open to anyone who wants to rent the facility.'' The foundation isn't a museum, so visitors shouldn't expect to find lots to look at if they drop by. The Taste of Polonia--a four-day festival held Labor Day Weekend featuring Polish food, nonstop polka music, beer and more--is the foundation's biggest yearly fund-raiser. It's also a neighborhood institution.

The poor SOB is probably rolling over in his grave about the notoriety of being linked to the beer barrel polka.
