Irrelevant. GM doesn't add vehicles sold to replacement hubcaps sold to calculate ASP. No one sane expects Quark to displace other Intel chips in markets it already participated in.
The real issue is gross margin. I know of a successful semico whose ASP is less than half a buck and its GM is almost always over 50%. There is no reason to presume the introduction of the Quark line won't have a neutral or positive effect on Intel overall GM.
As far as ARM goes, it should be worried. Apparently Intel isn't content to just go after its nouveau riche markets like phones and tablets but will target its traditional core in embedded control. It will have to fight a multi-front war to keep its high volume base.
Well, you certainly put the kebash on any excitement we kimght have had with INTC today. Intel investors seem about as excited about their stock as Apple holders, following their respective big news days. The only way for Intel's stock to do worse following its announcements, is if it had announced that Baytrail had been selected for the new Apple phones.
I had been hoping to sell some 24 strike calls at a reasonable price. But today was not the day.
