It's pathetic, and short-sighted, if you ask me.

What else can they realistically do? They have just about
finished throwing every non-x86 thing they have over the
side just to stay afloat in the traditional x86 PC market.

But no, I've heard they don't even want to slap a sticker on it. People might ask what the sticker means... I don't think there's a good answer.

This must be a knee-jerk reaction to the VIIV announcement, I don't think they really knew how to respond and are pretty sure they can't compete on the same ground. I do think that Intel is outdistancing AMD in this regard. There's no way to show how "this processor is 5% faster in this benchmark". It's subjective, but appeals to the user who NEEDS to consolodate his equipment and have a better user experience.

I've just finished viewing the VIIV show by Otellini and it's been a really great job. I can just imagine how great this would be in HDDVD.

Yes, and I would expect they will be more competitive as the year progresses, I believe they weren't paying much attention to ViiV and Intel.
