I am not saying I agree, but I think the author is saying something like the argument used against Rambus.

Intel hangs out at the forums and then patents the technology, or discusses and promotes the technology without disclosing ownership rights.

Eventually, in Rambus' case a court finally said that Rambus had no duty to disclose and were not prohibited from patenting their ideas, regardless of what was disclosed at the forum.

This guy is concerned that Intel will establish a standard which they will control.

Curiously, enough, from what I can piece together, it was Intel who told Rambus not to prevent others from using the Rambus tech, and Rambus ignored Intel's advise which in a sense created the litigation that Rambus has to have gone through, which was, in the end, not good for Rambus.

If it makes the author of the article feel better AMD will surely follow behind Intel as ususal with you know a better solution, of course.

I assume the 'better' was sarcastic. :)

It [intel] unveiled Viiv in August.

No. 2 Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE:AMD - News) will counter on Wednesday, when it take the wraps off its reply, a platform it calls "AMD Live."
