I don't think anyone had great expectations about the show...particularly after it was made clear early in 2013 that the Hoffman crew wasn't going to spend any extended time at the Jota property.
Do not confuse debate/discussion with excitement. Some people thought the whole Gold Rush idea was made up by the company and scoffed at it when the rumors started on it and they couldn't get independent confirmation from Discovery despite the company confirming it. Meanwhile various shareholders followed the Hoffman's facebook and twitter feeds (many of which I posted on this thread as they were occurring) which aided in the confirmation that Gold Rush was going to film the offshoot in South America, and obviously at the Jota property based on the company's confirmation.
The story merely had intrigue to MDMN shareholders, how could it not? But I don't think any reasonable shareholder saw the Gold Rush thing as anything more than what it was...exposure for JJ and possibly one of JJ's properties that Medinah held a 20% interest in. I don't think anyone expected any kind of stock moving reaction to it.
