How desperate are they to pull this type of crap? This is a company with multi-billion dollar quarterly profits telling it's presumably hard working employees: "You know what, we're rich, but not quite rich enough, so we've decided to just not pay you this week. That way, we'll have a tiny bit more money at the end of this quarter!". How is this even legal? Is this normal in the USA, or is it time to abandon ship for those guys?

Agreed. IBM is desperate. There were rumors that it wants to sell its server business(x-86) to Lenova.
