HDAC is just one of epigenetic protein family. HDAC is a large family by itself, has 4 different classes, and each class includes several different isoforms. Previous HDAC drugs with lots of data are very similar, focused mainly on isoforms 1/2/3/6, for examples, both vorinostat and panobinostat. There are many more possible isoform combinations, and/or more specific isoform, like Acetylon's rocilinostat, HDAC6 only - recent deal with CELG. Also several drugs on the list explore indications far beyond oncology. So, it is an interesting area to see future development. Remember, initially PI3K didn't produce anything until small company Calistoga with PI3K-delta specific CAL101 showed very good single agent activity in hematology/lymphoma.
