One more thing on Video On Demand

It has been said that the bandwidth of the entire Internet is only about 1% of the size needed to handle the Video on Demand potential market.

That too needs to be addressed.

BruceThompson: I'm not the most up w/ the VOD stuff and it's been said to me by a friend that there needs to be a way to cache the movie to be viewed.

From a laymans POV, I gotta ask, "Why wouldn't I just be able to just order the movie, have it pushed directly to my computer then w/ my AV out line connect the signal to my TV's AV input jacks?"

I then just play the movie from my computer and go sit in front of my TV and watch it, just like I do a DVD. It gets a similar digital signal from there, so why not from my computer in the same way? I would think they could also "wrap" the movie in a way to make it so it couldn't be copied. And, just like a DVD, you could only have so many out at a time, based on your subscription level. I would think that if a certain folder were setup that GnF's servers could "see", then when you delete the movie they could then simply "send" your next one in que down the pipe to you. Maybe some simple online notification to them to do so would be required, but still, very simple I would imagine. I'd notify them to send the next movie down the pipe and before doing so, they "look" into my "authorized" folder to see if it's empty (or based on my subscription level, an "empty slot" left to fill, i.e. 3-out plan, 2 movies in the folder, one slot able to be filled). Now, what if I were to move the movie from that folder to another folder on my HD? Couldn't they also "sign" the movie in a way that it MUST play from that exact "authorized" location on my computer, otherwise it's worthless? Then, a digital "timer" could be placed on the video data that after a short time from being moved from the "authorized" folder (if I were inclined to pirate the movie) certain required parts of the file would be automatically deleted making the remaining movie data unuseable.

Would this not be possible? Like I said, total layman here in this regards, but sounds doable to me.
