Had they not purchased additional power from Canada there would have been a brownout or rationing for some areas. Since conversion to gas is very expensive and NG prices are projected to rise as the US gears up to sell LNG to Europe, coal will continue to be vital to the nation for years after Obama leaves office and is replaced by a President that knows something about economics.
