My hunch is the bedrock is yielding large gold placer nuggets and the low cost setup is a form of collecting them during the exploration and follow up to discover the gold veins up stream.

Once the surface deposits are discovered the drilling will commence in a already proven out cropping. All in my opinion of course.

I still like my assumption better that they
found huge gold nuggets the size of planets that will have to be hauled out with 100 mule teams trains.
