#21030 RE: DewDiligence #21026

DewDiligence - LSBC,

Are you sure you want to get me started on the outfit with cancer-fighting tobacco that was going to save Kentucky tobacco farmers?

In private conversation, I asked Irwin at an annual meeting why "Kentucky" was so interested in finding individual DNA when everybody in Kentucky had the same DNA. Irwin nervously glanced around the room to see if Kentucky was within earshot.

What a show they put on. We had just come from the Smithsonian. I had suggested our son take the car and scout out something a bit more exciting than a snooze through an annual meeting. It was getting dark before we left and we had one of the company executives still hanging on us as we fought our way out the door. My son talked about how much more exciting the meeting was than the Smithsonian.

A year later the building was shuttered, the exec was one of those who had gone. Bankruptcy was even then beginning to raise its ugly head. Somehow they soldiered on for 3 more years or so and finally there was the open checkbook from the CEO that was all that was left.

I told junior to forget it but he put a whole $400 into stock earlier this year. You see it was only pennies. Pennies add up. I am telling him now that he can yet sell for a sawbuck and help offset a little bit of his gains in a partial sale of RHAT. He is reluctant.

What a show that was.

Best, Terry
