gcbr, are you sure you are not referring to the idea of using rfid(or some such tracking device) devices to track the origin of animals from specific farms and/or countries for the method of insuring a particular animal didn't originate from a farm that had a cow with mad-cow disease? not sure how the genetic make up of a herd would have any relevancy to its journey from farm to food store; or, how that expense would be justified.
