First of all, the older coal plants that have not installed emission controls like scrubbers are the ones that will be most effected and probably shut down. They will take the hardest hit and need to shut down.

The Landree mine produces a low-sulfur coal which is highly desirable, commands a higher price and consequently is much lower in producing SO2 (sulfur dioxide) when processed.

That being said the power plants that VHGI is selling to have spent considerable amounts of money to modernize with the appropriate upgrades to meet or exceed federal guidelines.

I see a definite increase in demand for Illinois Basin Coal (the type that VHGI has) which bucks the trend and has seen increase in demand.

See this recent(May 5, 2013)article from WSJ:

In the Midwest, Coal Stages a Comeback
New Technologies Remove a Barrier to Mining in the Illinois Basin, Boosting Output and Bucking the Overall Trend

"Coal has been losing favor as an energy source for a few years, thanks to relatively cheap and clean-burning natural gas and stricter environmental rules. But at least in this part of the country, mining is a booming business. "

"But in the Illinois Basin, which includes southern Illinois and Indiana and western Kentucky, coal output rose by 10% last year, and the region over the next several years is projected to surpass Central Appalachia in coal output for the first time ever."

So not only am I not worried I'm more excited than ever for VHGI's future and increased value as time goes on.
